What is it
The complete set – ProMaterials – will consist of such materials as wooden floor, furniture wood, concrete, bricks, ground, fabric, car paint and of course standard materials like plastics and metals. Also there would be additional materials like damaged, sc-fi etc.
Currently I am working on “Start Point” – set of plastics and metals with 203 color swatches from RAL classic palette. This will be available soon.
How does it work
Wood Expert is a set of wooden floor materials – ready to use. These are not only textures, but fully functional and flexible shaders already constructed – that work is done for you. I created the materials using nodes in Octane Render, and exposed the best, most common used set of controls to quickly edit the material, without the need to go and edit connections and whole structure. I did the same for Cinema 4D using Octane for Cinema nodes – this way you have native controls inside octane material in Cinema 4d.
You can control each feature of the wooden floor on its own – color, specularity, roughness, beveling, distortion, tinting, paneling, bump and grunge – each can be edited separately. That means that you can have dark floor with beveling and rough splats, and then you can lower the beveling, or lower the splats, or make the whole wood bright. This are 4 different types only using single slider each time.
The set consist of pre-made presets (currently 51 of them). Each preset is constructed in the same way. The core of every preset are grayscale maps, which are responsible for color, bump, specularity and roughness. Using grayscale instead of normal maps saves a lot of VRAM. The main map – Input map – is the map that contains floor panels pattern, and the wood type itself. Then there are also maps for beveling each plank, and distorting each plank, plus there is additional map to add random coloration to random plank and a map to add a little of grunge.
Currently there are 24 different patterns. System of nodes is constructed in such a way that it gives you maximum flexibility. This means that you can create many different presets just from one pattern type. you can make many colors and each in different type of finish, like glossy or lacquered, satin, mat, old, painted etc. Then you just drag and drop in your future projects. Each preset you modify you can simply save as a new preset. Naturally expand your library while you work.

How does it help you
Using presets is super easy – you just chose from pre-made presets wood that best suits you current project and just drag and drop from the library. That is the main purpose of having some presets already made, instead of just the material system. Time saver – no need for setting up materials yourself and testing many configurations.
Secondly – you can choose – you can decide what might look best just by browsing and seeing thumbnails. Not only a time saver but it improves quality of your work, by allowing you to make the best choices. How many times you were just tired of testing another map only to realise it’s too dark, too bumpy etc?
It is super flexible – you can choose, you can tweak, or adjust it so it fits your current scene. On many occasions wood is to shiny or not shiny enough. Now you can tweak it without guessing – directly in your scene. For even more control you can edit the node system if you want – it is open for editing, you can modify it, combine with other materials to create mixed wood. You can edit the grayscale map itself to change it even further, although I think you won’t have to.
